This study analyzes how the simulation as pedagogical strategy impacts on the development of self-direction competence for junior high school students. Virtual tours to museums were conducted applying a specific learning purpose, on which each student designed and selected their own route. To accomplish this purpose, they considered their previous knowledge and the elements of self-direction: how to plan and organize, how to handle emotions and how to manage their skills for continuous improvement. The quantitative and qualitative results showed a positive effect on self-direction, specifically on developing their learning strategies.
